Swollen Members-Abstract Hip-hop/Rapcore

Swollen Members is a hip-hop group based out of Vancouver, British Columbia. They were founded in the mid 1990's. The band is mostly made up of Mad Child and Prevail, the well-known rap duo and was later joined by Rob the Viking and Moka Only.   
They were first noticed when Mad Child and Prevail went to the B-Boy Summit in California in 1996. After winning a few rap battles, they were initiated into the Rock Steady Crew. The Rock Steady Crew also includes Dilated Peoples and The Arsonists. 
Their debut album, "Balance" was released in 1999. It sold over 41,000 copies and won the 2001 Juno Award for Best Rap Recording as well. Later, in 2001, their second album, "Bad Dreams" was released. This album actually won them another Juno award for Best Rap Video, Best Director and Best Individual Video. In 2002, "Monsters in the Closet", their third album release brought Moka Only and Rob the Viking to the group and included the single featuring hit artist, Nelly Furtado" "Breathe". In 2003, the album, "Heavy" was released. The year's popular video games featured some of the singles included in this album and helped to gain them more recognition. With the release of their fifth album, "Black Magic" came the loss of group member, Moka Only. This album includes their hit single, "Pressure". Shortly after, Swollen Members signed with their new label, "Suburban Noize Records". With the new label, came the release of their sixth and seventh albums, "Armed to the Teeth" and "Dagger Mouth". The band currently consists of Mad Child, Prevail and Rob the Viking.
