Metric- Post-Punk Revival
Metric was formed in Toronto, Canada and has also has been based in Montreal, London, New York and Los Angeles. It is made up of Lead singer, and guitarist, Emily Haines, guitarist James Shaw, bassist Josh Winstead and Joules Scott-Key. Metric's lead vocalist, Emily Haines is a dual citizen of Canada and India. Emily's father, Paul, was a poet and would have Emily listen to rare and eclectic music which became her early influences. James Shaw began his musical instruction in Boston music school and moved later to Juliard music school in New York City. After moving to Montreal, Shaw met Haines and they began. Haines and Shaw decided to call this "partnership" Metric in 1999. Their first debut album, Grow Up and Blow Away was released in 2001 and contained hit singles such as: "Grow Up and Blow Away" and "Soft Rock Star". In 2001, Joules and Josh joined to complete the crew. In 2003, Metric's first full album, Old World Underground was released and eventually went gold in Canada. Just two years after the release of their first, Metric released their second full album, Live it out... and much like their other records, was very well received. In 2008, Metric toured all over and played many different shows throughout even 2009. Soon after, their fourth album, Fantasies was released featuring ten tracks. If any of you know of Metric, it is probably from their single, "Black Sheep" featured in the movie "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World." Another well known single, "Help I'm Alive" is also featured.
SOME COOL FACTS:
Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park of their single "Gold Guns Girls". Metric also came together with many other artists during the 2010 Winter Olympics to make a remix of the popular song, "Wavin' Flag" by K'Naan. This remix was made to benefit Haiti as part of the "Young Artists For Haiti".
